Employee Benefits
Accelerent Breakfast: BCG Shares Health Benefits Insights at Accelerent Breakfast
September 12, 2025

This morning at the Accelerent Breakfast, Benefit Commerce Group was honored to have Scott Wood, Managing Partner and Principal, address a record audience of over 700 business leaders and professionals at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix.
Scott shared timely insights on how organizations can maintain momentum in their employee benefits strategy, while also highlighting some of the most common causes of drag, including:
- Rising premiums and market volatility
- Lack of employee engagement in health and wellbeing initiatives
- Leadership misalignment on benefits goals
- Limited resources to pivot when unexpected challenges arise
“These are areas where employers can lose ground if they aren’t prepared,” Scott explained. “Momentum in business isn’t about reacting once a problem arises—it’s about building readiness and alignment so your organization can keep moving forward.”
Keynote Inspiration: The New Science of Momentum – Don Yaeger
The event’s keynote speaker, Don Yaeger, Hall of Fame keynote speaker, business leadership coach, 12-time New York Times bestselling author, and longtime Associate Editor for Sports Illustrated, delivered an unforgettable message on the “New Science of Momentum.”
His message centered on a critical truth: momentum begins long before the spark.
“In business, preparation and pivot points are what set the stage,” Yaeger said. “You have to have a team in place to address the ‘what ifs’ so that the organization can pivot when that momentum spark occurs.”
He emphasized that there’s no rank when the mission is to improve every day, illustrating his point with lessons from high-performing teams:
- The Blue Angels – After every flight, the Navy’s top pilots spend no more than 90 seconds celebrating what went right before turning to how they can improve. “Feedback, and honest feedback, is the breakfast of champions,” Yaeger reminded the audience. “You can’t take your foot off the pedal of momentum.”
- Super Bowl LI, 2017 – The New England Patriots, trailing by a wide margin against the Atlanta Falcons, found a turning point when quarterback Tom Brady risked being tackled to secure a crucial first down. That moment, a spark of determination, fueled a cascade of momentum that led to one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. As commentator Joe Buck remarked, “The Patriots redefined the word momentum.”
Yaeger urged leaders to adopt the same mindset: prepare before the spark, seize the turning point, and never stop driving momentum forward.
